Halo (available in Ann Arbor)Ganger Dermatology is pleased to introduce Halo: a new treatment for total skin rejuvenation with reduced downtime!
Halo by Sciton is the world’s first and only hybrid fractional laser. This exciting new laser technology combines the benefits of non-ablative (tissue heating) and ablative (tissue vaporizing) wavelengths to deliver precise results with a much easier and faster healing experience than any other laser on the market today. The dual wavelengths unique to the Halo laser allow for customizable treatments specifically selected for your skin. Halo gives you the results you want without the downtime you expect.
Our Halo hybrid fractional laser treatment uses a combination of wavelengths to repair the visible signs of aging including wrinkles, discoloration, sun damage, enlarged pores, and uneven skin tone.
The Halo laser focuses energy on the deeper collagen layer of skin leaving the surface of your skin largely intact for a quicker healing time. It delivers the results of an ablative procedure with a non-ablative downtime. The best of both worlds!

How many treatments will I need?
The customizable nature of Halo allows you to choose how many treatments you want! Discuss your goals and needs with your clinician to establish a treatment plan that best suits you. For example, you may choose to have 1-2 more-aggressive treatments or elect to have multiple less-aggressive sessions to achieve a similar goal over a more gradual duration.
What happens during treatment?
Thirty minutes to an hour before the treatment, a topical anesthetic (numbing cream) will be applied to your skin to reduce the sensation during the procedure. After the appropriate interval for the topical anesthetic to take effect, you will be escorted to our treatment room where the area to be treated is first measured to ensure that your skin is treated evenly. The dynamic feedback system integrated into the Halo handpiece allows for the uniform delivery of energy as it is gently rolled across the surface of the skin. The system itself recognizes when the treatment is complete based on the personalized settings predetermined by your clinician.
What does Halo feel like?
With a topical anesthetic and integrated cooling technology, most patients experience very little discomfort. Most patients describe the treatment as a feeling of heat with occasional prickling sensations, but are generally comfortable. After the treatment, most patients will continue to feel warm for an additional 15 to 30 minutes, or a bit longer with deeper treatment levels.
How soon after my treatment can I return to normal activities?
For the first 24 hours you will be asked to keep your skin protected according to your clinician’s instructions. Sun avoidance during the first 24 hours is critical as your skin begins the healing process; for this first day, sunscreens are not used as they can cause irritation of the freshly treated skin. After 24 hours , you will transition to using products with SPF and may resume use of makeup. For the first 1-2 days, you may notice a slight bronzed appearance to your skin along with a textural change often described as “sandpapery”. You will begin a gradual peeling process which starts as early as Day 2 and is typically complete by Day 5-6.
When will I see results and how long will it last?
You will see initial results between two and five days after your Halo treatment, but your skin will continue to improve over time. Most patients see the greatest pigmentary improvement in the first 2-3 weeks. This is followed by a dermal regeneration phase (involving collagen and improved vascularity) that continues to improve for months.
The effects of Halo will last for years with appropriate continued maintenance care of your skin. This involves, at a minimum, diligent daily sun protection and may be further bolstered by the addition of other products (such as retinol/retinoids, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants) if deemed beneficial for your skin.
