Ann Arbor’s Most Advanced Allergy Patch Test
At some point in our lives, almost all of us will experience a form of contact dermatitis—a red, itchy rash that flares up after touching a substance. But some are more prone to reactions than others. Skin irritation may become a constant battle against an unknown allergen enemy. Thankfully, the T.R.U.E. Test® at Ganger Derm can identify the culprit and get you back to clear and comfortable skin.
How We Test for Allergens
If you struggle with frequent flare-ups of irritated skin that is dry, bumpy, itchy, or red, it could be due to an allergic reaction. Identifying what you’re allergic to can be tricky, with the wide range of chemicals, metals, and other materials in objects we come in contact with every day. A patch test involves exposing your skin to tiny amounts of known skin irritants and gauging its response so we can understand what’s causing the problem and help you avoid contact.
At Ganger Dermatology, use the T.R.U.E. Test, a non-invasive way to test your skin’s reaction to 36 common allergens. Unlike prick tests or scratch tests, T.R.U.E. does not involve painful needles or breaking the skin. We use it because it’s one of the most comfortable and effective skin allergy testing methods available today!

Allergy Patch Testing FAQs
Our patch testing procedure involves securing three very thin panels to your back with hypoallergenic surgical tape. Each panel contains several small chambers filled with a gel that contains a small amount of one specific allergen. We leave these panels on your skin for 48 hours, during which time you’ll need to keep the area dry—that means no showering, no activities that cause excessive sweating, and no lotions or creams.
When you return to our office, we’ll remove them and examine the skin for any reactions, noting which substances triggered signs of contact dermatitis. Then, we’ll develop a set of personalized recommendations to help you avoid common cosmetics, soaps, fabrics, and other products that may contain the substance you are allergic to.
The overwhelming majority of people do not experience any pain or discomfort from patch testing. The panels are thin and designed to be as unobtrusive as possible. The T.R.U.E. Test is also made of hypoallergenic materials to ensure your comfort throughout the process.
For people who frequently struggle with rashes and irritation, patch testing can be a safe and comfortable way to take back control of your skin! The T.R.U.E. Test is highly effective at identifying common allergens. Once we have a clearer understanding of what is causing contact dermatitis, we can work together to develop a plan to help you avoid further outbreaks and take care of your skin. At Ganger Dermatology, we’ll do everything in our power to bring you the relief you deserve.
